The aim of this course is to further challenge students to improve grammar and speech with the specific needs of Chinese-speaking learners of English in mind. As in previous grammar and speech modules, the teaching approaches English grammar neither prescriptively nor descriptively but inductively; and not by telling but by helping to discover. This has advantages with regard to clarifying and making easier certain key concepts and patterns in English grammar. The course draws attention to those differences which matter most but also covers all essential grammar concepts. By doing so, it helps Chinese learners of English to improve their understanding of English grammar through discovering its patterns and regularities. The teacher will use and alternate between workbook and spoken exercises that are both complimentary and supplementary in content. There is a significant amount of independent study required and students are expected to complete both classwork and assigned self-study.
